Oahu, Hawaii Vacation - September 4-11, 2013
Day 3 - Island Tour

We had breakfast at Kioni's. We arrived shortly before they opened and there were several people waiting for them to open. As we waited more people arrived. They opened a couple of minutes early and the place became almost full as people filed in. We had an early morning meeting time for the tour and we were concerned we may have to rush through our breakfast even though the meeting place was just a couple of minutes walk away. The waitress was great, she literally ran from table to table getting everyone's orders. We were served our food within ten minutes of sitting down. We had a nice leisurely breakfast with enough time to get to the meeting place 10 minutes early. We told the waitress and her manager what a great job she had done and even though the voucher covered gratuities we left her an additional tip.

The tour we took is called "Grand Circle Oahu Island Tour" also referred to as "All Of Oahu In A Day" which pretty much describes the tour perfectly. The bus driver/tour guide did a great job of giving us information about the places we passed. We made several stops to either stroll the area or for just a few minutes to view the scenery and take pictures. The tour included:

  • Stops at: Hanauma Bay, the Dole Pineapple Plantation, Coral Kingdom (where we had lunch), and Tropical Farms (where they specialize in macadamia nuts covered with many coatings, we bought a box of macadamia nuts covered with no-sugar dark chocolate that were delicious. There was a signpost there that showed how far it was to several cities around the world.)
  • Picture taking stops at: Amelia Earheart Lookout, Halona Blowhole, Sandy Beach, Makapu'u Point, Nu'uanu Pali Lookout, Byodo-In Temple, Chinaman's Hat, Kahana Bay and world-famous North Shore surfing beaches.
  • The tour guide pointed out many prestigious homes and other important buildings & structures. He also told us about some of the trees and other vegetation we passed giving us a brief history of the area.
  • We had dinner at Pikake Terrace, it was a buffet. This is one place we would not recommend eating, There was very little selection on the buffet and not much of what was on the buffet was anything we wanted. After trying some items on the buffet, leaving all but a bite or two of each on the plate, we basically had some salad & dessert. (Pictures)
